Our client, a leading real estate firm, is seeking an Assistant Controller to oversee financial reporting for their residential apartment portfolio. This role will lead a team of five and drive process improvements across accounting operations.
Location: Irvine, CA (Hybrid – 2 days in office, subject to change)
Compensation: Up to $140K + 20% bonus
Reports To: VP of Accounting
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting and financial reporting for the residential portfolio
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of five (4 Property Accountants + 1 Accounting Manager)
- Ensure accurate and timely GAAP and internal financial reporting
- Manage Affordable Housing portfolio compliance (lender, JV partner, and government reporting)
- Review financial statements and key financial activities
- Support the VP of Accounting on audit requests & IT system improvements
- Work with operations and development teams on reporting & analysis
- Oversee property tax tracking schedules and payment processes
- Implement and improve accounting policies, procedures, and systems
What They’re Looking For:
- Multi-family (apartment) accounting experience
- A mix of public accounting & private industry
- Strong GAAP & financial reporting expertise
- CPA preferred (required for top of pay range)
- Experience with REIT compliance, LIHTC, or NMTC a plus
