Job Description
Growing scrap metal facility in Hattiesburg, MS now hiring experienced Buyer to add to their team! This is a permanent, direct hire opportunity with benefits (NOT a contract/temp position).In this role, you will buy merchandise or commodities for resale to consumers at the wholesale or retail level. Analyze past buying trends, sales records, price, and quality of merchandise to determine value and yield. Select, order, and authorize payment for merchandise according to contractual agreements.

This is a regular day time position, typically7am-4pm M-F with occasional weekends as needed.


  • Examine, select, order, and purchase at the most favorable price merchandise consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements and other factors.
  • Analyze and monitor sales records, trends and economic conditions to anticipate consumer buying patterns and determine what the company will sell and how much inventory is needed.
  • Inspect merchandise or products to determine value or yield.
  • Set or recommend mark-up rates, mark-down rates, and selling prices for merchandise
  • Confer with sales and purchasing personnel to obtain information about customer needs and preferences.
  • Consult with managers about budget and goods to be purchased.
  • Inspect merchandise or products to determine value or yield.
  • Operate safety equipment, and use safe work habits.
  • Compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, & company safety, health, & environmental rules, regulations, policies, & procedures.


  • College Degree is preferred (Associates or Bachelors) and High School Diploma is a must
  • Minimum 1+ year previous experience in a similar role. ·
  • Previous experience in the recycling business or recyclable commodities industry preferred. ·
  • Excellent math and computer skills required. ·
  • Professional communication skills (verbal & written) required. ·
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Time Management:Managing one's own time and the time of others. Ability to prioritize.
  • Reading Comprehension:Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.
  • Active Listening:Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
