Awesomecompany in Upland, CAis seeking a detail-oriented and productive Glass Blower

Job Title: Glassblower

Summary: Works under minimum supervision to fabricate and seal various sizes of quartz lamps through the utilization of hydrogen-oxygen and natural gas torches in order of priority in air conditioned work environment. Read and interpret technical drawings and written and verbal instructions. Continuous visual inspection to assure seal meets product specifications. This description covers all levels. Trainee level has no experience requirement and is expected to reach level 1 within 6-months. Trainee through level 2 skill level do not include R&D fabrication and experience requirement adjusts according to level.

Responsibilities:

· Utilize a hydrogen-oxygen and natural gas torch to heat quartz tubing while blowing into a hose to manipulate the quartz as it rotates on Litton glass lathe

  • Cut and clean tubing using diamond saw
  • Verify seals meet product specifications by utilizing calipers and gauges
  • Continuous visual inspection for defects and notify supervisor immediately of issues
  • Identify and communicate findings on rejected lamps from QC and perform rework
  • Utilize and operate Tesla coil and mechanical vacuum pump
  • Ensure appropriate stock levels of parts and notify supervisor of material defects or shortages
  • Work with engineering to fabricate R&D prototypes and provide feedback
  • Consistently meet department standards and product specifications
  • Assure all tools and equipment are available and in proper working condition
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as required; maintain cutting room
  • Follow ISO related quality policies, procedures, and documentation requirements as applicable

· Follow departmental safety requirements including proper use of PPE as required, including, but not limited to: required to wear appropriate level of eye protection depending on duties, including safety glasses, dark lens when blowing glass, and specific protective body coverings and shields when testing lights

Requirements:

  • 2 years of off-hand or lamp/scientific glassblowing experience, and/or equivalent vocational training
  • Quartz fabrication experience in a manufacturing environment preferred but not required
  • Manufacturing experience, including functional inspection of parts or assemblies
  • Must be able to perform visual inspections
  • Must be detailed oriented and a productive self-starter
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and perform basic math
  • Must have ability to see fine detail, excellent hand/eye coordination and hand/finger dexterity to operate fabrication machinery and basic measuring tools
  • Ability to interpret and apply required policies and procedures
  • Requires ability to perform all required inspection criteria, good eye-hand coordination, attention to detail, ability to use both hands to perform inspections using fixtures and gages
  • Good interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with staff, management, other departments
