Public Affairs & Communications Strategist
The Public Affairs & Communications Strategist provides public relations communication to the public regarding detention and patrol programs within Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
Duties will include but are not limited to: research and developing an effect communications and content strategy; working with both local and national media; assisting with MCSO's website; video production; and participating in community outreach programs. Margin for error may be substantial if items are misinterpreted regarding the Sheriff's Office; and monetary loss in the form of grants and/or federal funding. • Conceptualizes, develops, implements, and maintains a public communications strategy. • Promotes the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office activities, public relations, and the overall image of the office within the media entities. • Drafts, coordinates, and maintains content, long-range marketing, public relations, communication, and governmental relation programs for patrol and detention programs of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. • Drafts press releases, speeches, and opinion editorials on a broad range of topics. • Creates and provides assistance with community outreach programs as they relate to the Sheriff's initiative program. • Video production • Contributes articles and ideas for MCSO’s internal newsletter. • Prepares materials for and maintains contact with other agencies or individuals within the community to promote or enhance the position of MCSO. • Interacts with constituents via written communication; may represent MCSO at educational and public service events. • Acts as a Public Information Officer in order to provide information to the local and national media outlets regarding situations relating to MCSO. • Develops and manages a content strategy for the MCSO website and social media sites to include, but not limited to, Facebook, and Twitter for the Sheriff's Office. • Assists with training; possibly managing subordinate staff and performing the duties associated with public information. • Maintains statistical records; prepares monthly and quarterly reports pertaining to programs being utilized. • Encourages others to participate in worthwhile endeavors to enhance the view of MCSO. • Prioritizes daily issues affecting MCSO, communicating with the media and keeping supervisors aware of high impact issues that could affect the image of the office. • Be present at work site to perform tasks as scheduled and assigned by the Supervisor. • Understands google analytics and UTM codes

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations Marketing, Public Administration or a closely related field and (5) five years' professional experience in journalism, public relations, or marketing preferably for a large organization. An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
